With over 30 years of nautical and engineering experience, Ross Porter is a highly skilled Marine Engineer and the author of the Pearls of Boating Wisdom Maintenance Course. Ross embarked on his career with an "old-school" apprenticeship in Marine Engineering, gaining hands-on expertise in both inboard and outboard motors, as well as petrol and diesel mechanics. His early work involved handling yacht breakdowns around the Greek Islands, offering practical problem-solving skills in demanding environments.
In addition to his maritime experience, Ross completed an adult apprenticeship in Gas Turbines with Air New Zealand and later served as Chief Engineer on super-yachts, demonstrating his versatility and leadership in the industry. He also served as the skipper of Maraetai’s Inshore Lifeboat in New Zealand, contributing to critical maritime safety efforts.
